True Love

I think “The Green Mile” is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And even though it’s almost 12 years old, it’s one of those movies that I can just sit down and watch at any time. One of my favorite characters was that of evil prison guard Percy Wetmore, played by Doug Hutchison.

Even though Hutchison went on to star in “24” and “Lost,” he’s making the news for a different reason these days. The 51-year-old-actor just married Courtney Stodden, a 16-year-old “aspiring country singer.” The two met when “she signed up for his acting workshop online.”
According to US Magazine, “after a four-month courtship over the Internet, Hutchison learned that the attractive blond he’d been flirting with was still just a teenager.” Now this is where the love story gets weird. Stodden’s mother intervened and began to monitor “her daughter’s exchanges with the actor, and was “fully aware” of their staggering age difference.” Additionally, in order to not break any laws (involving an underage minor), Stodden says that prior to getting married, the couple was never physically intimate and that she was a virgin. TMI.
Ultimately, Stodden’s mother and father “gave parental consent for her to marry her much-older beau.” The jovial groom was quoted as saying, “I always joke with Courtney that one of the reasons we worked is ’cause she’s 16 going on 36, and I’m 51 going on 21.” Too bad he’s in the minority with his opinion. Not only is he getting blasted by the media, his agent and manager recently dropped him. And his own mother won’t speak to him. TMZ says it’s “seriously wrong” and for once, I might have to wholeheartedly agree. But we’ll see what everyone else has to say. So you tell me… For him – true love or there’s something wrong here? For her – true love or gold digger? P.S. She sure doesn’t look 16!!!
***Update – Thanks to Jen from Hope Studios for sharing the following link. The Washington Post featured a video interview yesterday with Hutchison and Stodden. You can view it here. Talk about a bizarre…

If she really is 16, it’s sad. She’s just thrown away the rest of the “childhood”. Kids grow up too fast these days. It’s a shame but I think it’s “money talks”!
1. I think there’s something wrong with this guy. He’s a famous actor, but found his true love in a 16-year-old.
2. It’s bizarre that the parents were so supportive. They probably saw dollar signs and/or a quick path for their daughter to become famous.
3. @ReformingGeek is 100% correct. The decisions I made at 16 were questionable at best. She’s just a child.
4. What’s the over/under on this marriage not working out.
“Percy Wetmore do a dance. See him squishin’ in his pants.” That’s my favorite quote from “The Green Mile.” Maybe we can use it in this case too. LOL.
I heard about this on TV and ew…it just seems odd.
But no, she doesn’t look 16.
Weird. The parents, the girl, him, all of it. I can’t believe at her young age that she has had very many ‘serious” relationships. Makes you wonder what her parents were/are thinking and whether or not they were actually parenting or trying to be her “friend”.
I saw his interview on “E” and he stated the following: “But we’re very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless.”
I guess time will only tell if their relationship is true and will last…. but 16? She’s so young and still has so much growing up to do
It’s just creepy.
I just can’t see this going too far. I understand that love knows no boundaries, but I think the difference in age/ generation, and expectations will sadly be the decider in this wedding lasting.
“…true love can be ageless.” Yeah, that’s typically what child molesters say to justify their creepy-ass ways.
For a second, I thought that was Lindsay Lohan in the picture – but I forgot that Lindsay looks about 50.
“…true love can be ageless.” “love knows no boundaries”
True.
Yeah we’re entitled to our opinion and my opinion is more of a statement- about Stodden and Hutichson– What the hell gives anyone the right to judge?
I had quite a few serious relationships at the age of 16, but what I’ve come to understand with these types of men (I’m generalizing) in my own personal experience, is that no one THEIR age or near it, wants anything to do with them, they want someone they can control and who is naive, my ex was 10 years my senior.. and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of DV later.
Refer to my last blog post…you have been TAGGED! Mwahaha!
I have to blame the parents in this one. If she really is 16, it’s there responsibility to protect her and make good decisions FOR her if she is unable to (being clouded by hormones and all that teen stuff).
Shame on that dirty old man, though.
Let’s just say that no one would have ever mistaken me for older than I was at that age. 16 year old girls didn’t look like that when we were that age!
Why did I spell “their” as “there”?!? I hate when people do that! And I’m not sure she realized that the video was moving pictures the way she was posing as if in a photo shoot!
Well, I think *baaarfff* wait, sorry *baaaarrrrfff* Oh, gosh. I think my typing came down with something *baaaarrrf!!*
Steven thinks, “Any publicity is good publicity!” (Of course, in an extremely sarcastic tone!)
Needless to say, we are both pretty disgusted. Her parents ought to be ashamed of their selves. I can’t wait til they get divorced in two months! 🙂
