Moron of the Week Award #16

April 7, 2010 by admncc

After a short absence, the “Moron of the Week Award” is back.  So as usual, read the summaries, look at the news links and decide who the bigger idiot is.

Nominee #1 – Shaun Rogers.  The Cleveland Browns’ nose tackle who was arrested last week for having a loaded gun in his carry-on baggage at Hopkins International Airport.  He apparently “forgot” that it was there.  He’s also the guy who was “suspended for four games in 2006 for taking a banned substance to control his weight.”  Additionally, “in 2007, an exotic dancer claimed he inappropriately touched her at a club in Detroit, but an investigation cleared him.”  You can read more here.

Nominee #2 – Facebook Woman.  Denise New, of Arkadelphia, AR, is being sued by her son for harassment over some Facebook posts.  She said she wanted to know what he was doing.  He’s 16 years old and said she’s harassing and slandering him.  You can read more here.

Nominee #3 – Daddy Porn.  Jack Buckner is accused of showing his eight and nine-year-old daughters pornography on the family’s computer.  Jack claims he did it for “educational purposes.”  Here’s the kicker – Texas law allows this “if there’s a consenting parent in the room.”  You can read more about the incident here and about the Texas law here.

Nominee #4 – Dumb Lawmaker.  I am personally nominating the State of Texas for having a law which allows nominee #3.  It’s legal loopholes like this which potentially allow sick individuals to be around children.  And that, to me, is unacceptable.

Enjoy the discussion and let us know who should receive this week’s award.  And thanks to NeoConDon for two of the story leads.

  1. The DA has found a way to charge Jack Buckner. I’m a bit surprised at that law, though, considering how “conservative” this state is.

    Shaun is the chief moron!

  2. carissa says:

Gosh, never been so embarrassed to be a Texan. People are just… ridiculous.

  3. NeoConDon says:

This list is great this week.

Shaun Rogers: Anyone that “forgets” where he left his loaded firearm is plain stupid. Concealed Carry permit holders are held to high standards…he’ll lose his permit, and plead down to a misdemeanor. This will not be a felony in the end.

Facebook woman: The problem I see is that the state is allowing the child to sue the mother. That’s insane. Sounds like the kid needs an ass whoopin…

Daddy Porn: As much as I disagree with showing children porn, (and I recognize where it can easily lead), a parent has a right to raise his children how he chooses. Maybe it’s the family business, maybe he thinks it will help them later in their lives…but just because we disagree with the behavior, doesn’t make it illegal. If the gov’t were doing it, we’d have a legitimate argument against it, but this is business of the parents, not the gov’t.

Dumb Lawmaker: If the people want the gov’t to make a law telling parents what they may and may not show children, then the people of that state have the right to make that law.

    Shaun Rogers is the moron.

  4. The Constant Complainer says:

Obviously this post was not meant to be offensive to my Texas readers. Sorry ladies. And thanks for commenting!

  5. TallElf says:

I would have to say that the kid for the facebook mommy is the moron. I guess he wasn’t aware that all that he was posting was public? even if it is listed private, who knows who copies/pastes/etc and passes it on.

As for the gunslinger… treat every gun as if it were loaded… DUH

  6. Titfortat says:

    NCD

some days youre right other days youre a nut. I hope youre a little more consistent with your own kids

  7. Laura says:

I agree with #4, how is possible that the law permits a parent showing pornography to some children, I personally didn’t know that, and I am appalled and disgusted about it.

  8. Candice says:

Ditto to #4. A man alone with two kids watching arousing material? Not ok.

  9. Jacki says:

Ummm….okay…the moron has to be the “dad” showing his daughters porn. I use the term “dad” loosely. Can’t they charge him with child pornography or something? Stupid!

  10. tera says:

You should come to work with me for a day…you’d have more moron stories than you could print!:)

  11. Marissa says:

Facebook Mom was pretty smart when she also changed her son’s email password so he couldn’t reset his FB account.

  12. Porn dad followed by stupid spoiled sports guy.

  13. Zig the "People" person says:

NCD, if someone this stupid, Shaun Rogers, is legally allowed to carry a concealed weapon, what does it say about the rest of the people carrying weapons? Not much, idiot! Doesn’t take much to get a license to carry around a loaded gun,now does it? I want to nominate NCD for moron of the week!

  14. NeoConDon says:

You can’t help but love how judgmental Zig (and other liberals) are…

Maybe he loaned the gun to a friend or family member, and he/she was the stupid one who left it in the suit case. Maybe Shaun packed the wrong suit case… Maybe someone else made the mistake and he’s covering up for them since he has the means to do so. You libs are always so quick to jump to conclusions and judge a person even before he’s been given the benefit of due process.

You’re half right…it doesn’t take you or I much to get a license to carry a loaded gun because it’s a right guaranteed by the constitution. It’s supposed to be easy and automatic….that’s why we’re a free nation.

However, including the Revolutionary War, 1.2 Million soldiers have lost their lives so we can exercise our Constitutional Rights. That’s a price that all of us should recognize.

  15. Jen says:

I finished reading those and thought “What the hell just happened?” I would propose to vote for all three but it really comes down to a tie between Daddy Porn and Texas. Geez!

  16. Scarlett says:

My vote goes for the state of Texas. I have no issues if adults wanna watch porn, but let’s leave the kiddos out of it.

  17. Zig the "People" person says:

Carrying a gun was needed back in the day this coutry was founded. Back then they also needed to hunt and shoot their own food. Now, they have police to stop crimes. We have Supermarkets/groceries to buy food. Anyone who carries a loaded handgun, in modern society, is a nutjob. And they are just asking for trouble. I can’t wait until NCD accidentally shoots his finger off or his eye out That’ll teach ya, NUTJOB! I want to nominate NCD for moron of the millenium!

  18. NeoConDon says:

Zig is so poorly educated…The right to bear arms has NOTHING to do with having to hunt and shoot food. It has everything to do with liberty, preventing foreign attack, and prevent tyranny in gov’t.

The job of police is not to stop crime, but to investigate crime. In the United States, when it comes to preventing a crime from being committed against you or your property, you’re on your own.

  19. NeoConDon says:

Here ya go Zig…I just saw this. An Ashtabula Judge tells citizens to “arm themselves” in the face of massive cuts to police. Here’s the USA Today article.

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2010/04/ohio-official-tells-residents-to-arm-themselves-amid-cuts/1

I think I’m going to tell your neighbor to put a sign in his yard telling the criminals to rob your house since you’re not armed and you’re against the 2nd Amendment. It can read something like this…

“WARNING…!!! If you attempt to break into my house, I will shoot to kill. But my neighbor is anti-gun. You should be pretty safe if you break in next door…”

  20. Dick says:

On the face of it, #3 should be the hands down winner (loser?) just because there are kids involved, but as usual there has to be another side that we don’t know. You are dealing with a very flammable formula; pornXkidsXparents=trouble. So I have to ask myself, if this was “educational” how did it come to light?

In my opinion, porn education from a parent should consist of a stern lecture, while seated at the kitchen table (a neutral environment) as in, ‘it exists, stay away from it’, but that method paints a boring picture. So the media has to create a more dramatic image of daddy taking his little girls into the bedroom for a some “hands on, Debbie Does Dallas” style education. Let your imagination take over from there.

If you believe what you read in the newspaper I suspect it was more along the lines of daddy having a little fun at his daughter’s expense, so then the girls tell their friends about what daddy was doing with his thingy, the friends tell the parents, the parents tell the school, and so on. Sick and twisted if true, a ruined life, it not.

  21. Porn Daddy, definitely.

  22. Titfortat says:

    #3 and 4

Peas in a dumb ass pod. Where do these people come from? 🙁

  23. C. Princess says:

I love these posts the best! I usually find all the candidates in the running all pretty much deserve to share the award.

  24. Extreme John says:

Daddy porn needs a beaten, that is of course without me knowing the entire story, but if it’s anything like I can picture. Gun time.

  25. Angelica says:

I’m gonna have to go with #3 and #4. It hits really close to home for me. Children grow up, children can block it out, but children never get over this sort of thing.

You should have a poll for this!
