Kids Having Kids

February 10, 2010 by admncc

I could complain about this topic all day long.  Young parents!  And I mean YOUNG parents.

I’m a good parent.  I was 29 when my daughter was born; I was ready for children and could provide for my family.  But as we all know, that’s not always the case.  For example, have you been to your local mall lately?  It’s always entertaining to walk around ours and see all the high school girls who have babies.  But maybe I shouldn’t say it’s entertaining.  OK, how about this – it’s downright ridiculous.  And more often than not, when I see this, I hold the parents accountable.

As many of you know, multiple times on here, I’ve said that it’s a shame because some kids truly never have a chance – and I mean that referring to their parents.  Now before you go off on me, I don’t want to get in to a debate about individual situations or someone that messed up and ended up having a baby way too early.  I’m more so referring to the unfortunate nature of our society today – one in which sex is expected in relationships, frowned upon if it doesn’t happen and where kids are either not educated on safe sex or too stupid to practice it.  Let’s not forget Jamie Lynn Spears famously getting pregnant at age 16…

The reason I am riled up about this today is because of a conversation I heard on the radio yesterday.  One of my favorite radio personalities, Mike Trivisonno, mentioned the story (if I can find the actual news link, I will – but I haven’t been able to yet).  The story was about a 16-year old girl who has two children – an 11-month old and a four-week old.  Trivisonno was joking about parents possibly giving their daughters birth control pills without their knowledge.  But all joking aside, this young girl’s sad example is the epitome of what I’m talking about.

When I was young, my sister’s friend got pregnant in high school.  That girl’s two sisters (one of which was 15) thought it was “cool” to be pregnant, so they went out and got pregnant too.  And all three of them had kids within six months of each other.

What is our society facing?  The answer – true social decline…  You don’t talk face-to-face, because texting is better.  And you have kids, because that’s the answer to all of your problems!

  1. I agree that there is something very wrong. I’m not sure what the answer is but teaching consequences might help. Education about birth control is definitely needed but I think we should discourage young people from having sex too early.

  2. Deb says:

The whole social decline issue slaps me in the face 8 hrs/day, Mon.thru Fri. I worked at home for 15 years and now work away from home in a dr’s office amongst the 20- and early 30-somethings and boy, they are something. The cell phone is an appendage. They do not wear watches, they check their cell phone for the time. They do not talk to each other, they text, while standing just a few feet away from one another. One hand is in the pocket texting while they are pretending to be listening to a human talking to them. Three of them have kids, two out of the three are married, all three don’t have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of, but they walk in every morning with their extra-large latte in one hand, cell phone with unlimited texting in the other, bitching about how they ran out of oil the day before and have no heat. The right side of my head is now flat from banging it against the wall.

  3. Okay, the anon comments are back up! All the porn, erectile dysfunction drug, and escort spam I get is on your head 🙂

I refuse to give in to the cell phone thing with my kids yet because of the texting thing. And God forbid we have to deal with teen pregnancy! Oh man, I’m not ready for them to grow up!

  4. Jen says:

Oh, and when you sign in anonymous no one can click over here when they read a particularly witty comment you’ve made. So, really you should thank me. See how I turn things around? My husband really loves that about me (not)

  5. It’s a major social issue, and it ties into economic and educational decline. I don’t see a lot of easy answers here.

  6. Jacki says:

What Deb has to go through every day makes me bang my head on the table just thinking about those people!

ReformingGeek is right…there needs to be consequences. But there are none. If a young teenage girl has a baby, they get signed up for welfare benefits. The more children, the more benefits they get.

  7. NeoConDon says:

I think this whole issue stems from the baby boomers; the greatest failure of a generation. They have removed morality from the political and social discussion, and have therefore destroyed the fabric of society. The founders created a gov’t that could function ONLY with a good and moral people.

The ONLY way to prevent pregnancy is to not have sex. Teaching and encouraging safe sex as an alternative is like saying to your kids…”Okay, I don’t want you to smoke cigarrettes, but I know that the pressure is very high, so just smoke them safely…Don’t inhale and you won’t become addicted, and you won’t develop heart disease or lung cancer…”

But poverty is easily prevented. Don’t forget about what the economist, Walter E Williams said:

The 4 ways to not become poor:
    1. Graduate from highschool
    2. Don’t have kids until after you’re married
    3. Work some kind of job (even if it’s minimum wage)
    4. Do not engage in criminal behavior

    …I’ll add number 5: Don’t borrow money!

I wonder if this is taught in schools nowadays…

  8. Jen says:

There are no easy answers since the horse has already left the barn but parents need to tell their kids that sex=baby. I’m all for teaching them about birth control but I am also about teaching them about shame. When I was in high school there were was one, maybe two girls who got knocked up and stayed knocked up (as opposed to having an abortion). It was shameful for these girls. My son goes to a large high school where several girls in each class are pregnant and many of them have several kids.

Neocondon has the right answer in his 4 or 5 steps.

  9. MajorLeague09 says:

I agree that teens having kids is getting way out of hand. I think that some of the parents are to blame. Parents need to stop bailing there kids out of there problems. By making there problems go away isn’t teaching them anything but that they can do whatever they want and they have no consequences to pay. And I believe shows like 16 & pregnant on MTV doesn’t help the problem. I know they are trying to show teens that it’s no walk in the park, but what they don’t realize is that all teens see is an opportunity to get on TV. So they’ll run out get pregnant and then get to be on tv. Last season they had 6 girls, this season they have 10!!!!!! I think that if these teens think it’s so cool, they should be given nothing and have to work for everything. Put them in a homeless shelter and have them work to earn money for an apt, food…things for the baby. Take away mommy and daddy’s support and then ask them how cool is it to be pregnant as a teen.

  10. Timmy says:

Why is everyone so eager to blame the parents or MTV. I think part of the social decline conversation has to revolve around everyone blaming someone else for their problems. If little Susy goes out and gets knocked up when she is 15-16-17 it was her own damn fault, not her parents. Also, where is the outrage over the boys that are getting them pregnant.

If they are too stupid to realize that having sex without using birth control has consequences then so be it. I have always thought that there should be a test of intelligence that you have to take in order to become a parent. If you fail, your child goes to a couple that would like to have children but for whatever reason cannot.

And NeoConDon, preaching only abstinence to America’s youth and not how to practice safe sex is RETARDED….I will leave it to you to forward my post to Sarah, and I will be patiently waiting for my letter of reprimand.

  11. NeoConDon says:

You’re one class act Timmy. I’m sure that you’ll be the first person working with your 14 year-old daughter on how to place the condom on a banana. You’re just pissed because I’m right…but have fun teaching your daughter how to be an easy slut. I’m sure you’ll be proud.

How about this… “look son, it’s not okay to kill people. But if you do, you’ll need to know how to clean up and dispose of the body”

Or you could do what New York City is doing… “heroin is illegal, but since you’re going to do it anyway, here is a safe way to do it to prevent overdose and risk of disease or infection…” That’s a real example of NYC tax dollars at work.

  12. Timmy says:

I have never held back in any of my posts and never claimed to be a “class act” and you are so far wrong on this issue that it’s a bit unbelievable.

If I had a daughter that was stupid enough to be sexually active at 14, and didn’t listen to the advice that she had been given about waiting for sex then you bet your ass 100% I would teach my child how to protect herself or himself…

What world are you living in that you would rather have a child come home pregnant or with AIDS than teach them how to protect themselves. Have fun teaching your children how to supress their monthly flare-up of genital herpes with a Valtrex pill because you didnt! “But,but, but we told you Johnny abstitence is the only option I can’t believe you didn’t listen. We thought you were wise beyond your years at 15! Dont worry they can still lead a normal life of bicycling and rock climbing i’ve seen it on television.

And your example of killing a person and disposing of the body is ridiculous…

I can’t stand the right wing religious zealots who stuff their bullshit beliefs down my throat and expect me to not only listen but agree with them. The same goes for the asshats on the left. Kids are stupid, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be held accountable for their actions. Believe it or not given the right guidance and all the options they can make the right choices on their own.

Educating kids on the practices of safe sex isn’t a free pass for them to be an “easy slut” as you put it. But for them to be aware of the seriousness that comes along with such a choice.

And stop complaining about tax dollars that are spent outside of northeast Ohio, you’re not paying taxes in NYC it just makes you sound like a whiny douche bag! And for the record does your last paragraph mean that you are actually PRO disease spreading infections and overdose? Just wanted to clarify

  13. NeoConDon says:

If I had the choice of having a child that was mentally retarded, or as stupid as Timmy, I’d chose having a retarded child. Be sure to post the youtube video of you showing your daughter how to put a rubber on a cucumber. I bet it will be totally hot, and I’m sure Zig would like to watch it.

  14. Timmy says:

See above for the typical response from NCD when he loses an argument. Go back to listening to your right wing whack jobs and spew whatever the party line is for the day NCD. Maybe your hero Sarah Palin is giving a speech today. Better yet for you, maybe her genitals are speaking because unlike her mouth, only half the things that come out of her vagina are retarded.

  15. NeoConDon says:

Riiight…I lost the argument. You make up all kinds of stuff that you think I said or implied (but never did), and then debate it with yourself.

Here’s Timmy having a conversation with his son:

Timmy: now son, drinking and driving is illegal, and can kill you and other people, but since I know you’re going to do it anyway, it’s important that I teach you “how” to drive drunk…And while we’re at it, we’ll stop and pick up some rubbers and some baby carrots for you to practice on just in case you don’t find a local girl trained by her dad to be a slut…

  16. Zig the "People" person says:

I have been away, but I cannot let NCD’s homosexually charged fascination with me go. Timmy, you are right. Kids need to be “tought” the right way to do things. They do not need to be “told” what to do! NCD, your inmates are too young to have intercourse, but when they get older they will take it in the ass, without a conmdom, just like you do.

Kids are careless. Sex should not be incouraged for underage children, but kids should be tought what to do if the situation ever arises! Look, I first had sex at 13. Was I ready? Probably not. Was I safe? Probably not! Alright, I wasn’t! Were my parents going to stop me? NO! Parents can only TRY to teach their children. Kids are going to do what kids are going to do! Kids have limited lief experiences. Thats why we call them kids1 Teach your daughter how to put a condom on a cucumber and I’ll send my son over, Timmy. Of course, you can take NCD’s advise and after she rebells against his authority and sleeps with the whole block, I will teach my son the art of masterbation!

  17. Zig the "People" person says:

No….I think masterbation is an art best learned through self exploration. Isn’t that right,NCD? NCD is the biggest phoney!

  18. NeoConDon says:

I just can’t figure out why those on the left are so against science. Timmy and Zig are perfect examples of this. I give a perfectly logical scientific fact, and get jumped in with ignorant banter about how stupid and uncontrollable kids are. Typical liberal ignorance.

  19. Timmy says:

Again and again, Don you are wrong, I am not on the left or the right. I don’t have any issue with science or whatever it is you are referring to above. Furthermore I see no reason that I have to base my opinions on what a particular party tells me to think. I look at each issue and decide where I will stand. Unlike you who just goes along with whatever Rush tells you to think.

And CC, why are you moderating my posts…that was a great game that I tried to post a link to? Have you finally fallen prey to the censorship gods? You are depriving the CC blogging world the chance to meet the “Sperminator”

  20. The Constant Complainer says:

Timmy, sorry, I have it set up to require approval when people try to post links. I will go in and approve it.

  21. NeoConDon says:

There you go again making stuff up Timmy. But the debate you’re having is fun!

  22. Timmy says:

“I just can’t figure out why those on the left are so against science. Timmy and Zig are perfect examples of this” – NCD

Exactly what am I making up? You are quoted above as saying I am a perfect example of being on the left and against science. Hard for you to deny, you wrote it. You can reread your post if you want.
I just simply read what you wrote and showed you how you were wrong.

I am neither on the “left” or “against science” (whatever the hell that means)

  23. NeoConDon says:

You are clearly on the left, and you mocked my simple scientific fact. The things you’re making up:

    1. you lumped me in with the “right wing religious zealots who stuff their bullshit beliefs down my throat and expect me to not only listen but agree with them.”

    * I never mentioned religion, you did. I’m not stuffing bullshit beliefs down your throat, I’m citing a proven scientific fact. I don’t care if you believe my proven scientific fact or not. You are the one coming out calling me retarded for citing a proven scientific fact. The left is the group that maliciously shoves their agenda down our throats, and as soon as someone disagrees with them (or proves them wrong on a scientific basis. Then they call people names and start running around screaming the religious right is out to get them.

    2. You suggested that I think you should base your opinions on what a particular party tells you to think…

*I’m an independent, so I don’t listen to a party. Your opinions can be what you want the to be, but no one has the right (or the authority) to teach my children about sex except for my wife and I. My philosophy is simple…you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn’t hurt me, and I don’t have to pay for it.

  24. Timmy says:

The following is the definition of a politically independent voter just in case you are confused:

An independent may be variously defined as a voter who votes for candidates and issues rather than on the basis of a political ideology or partisanship;[1] a voter who does not have long-standing loyalty to, or identification with, a political party;[2][3] a voter who does not usually vote for the same political party from election to election;[4]

*You claiming to be an independent is the single most laughable thing I have ever seen posted on the entire internet! Remind me again which one of us lives in a house where someone is named after President Reagan.

I never lumped you in with the religious right, I merely stated that I didnt like or agree with their crappy opinion. If you read it that way, then that is on YOU not me.

What is the science that I called retarded. I referred to your thinking of teaching abstinence only as retarded, but not the science behind the fact that it is the only 100% surefire way to not get pregnant. Never once did I try to refute that or take offense to it. You have every right to teach YOUR OWN child how you wish, but you have no right, just as I have no right to dictate to others how to teach theirs. We each have our opinions and obviously they are strong ones. We can always try to persuade but that is pretty much it.

You also pretty much summed up what is wrong with America in your assertion that only Democrats in this country call people names and say that the other side is out to get them. Take off the rose colored glasses buddy. It goes both ways. Republicans are equally guilty, no more no less. There is no compromise for the greater good anymore(if there ever was).

  25. NeoConDon says:

I am an independent because the republican party is as liberal as the democrat party. Obama is Bush Heavy.

I don’t vote on a political ideology. I vote for the candidate who’s agenda reflects the closest to the constitution and the founder’s original intent. The founders sat at the exact center of the spectrum between Absolute Tyranny on the left and Absolute Anarchy on the right. That’s where I sit..in the exact center…just like the founders.

Finally, as another example of how you’re making stuff up, I never said abstinence is the only thing I would discuss with my boys, you said that, and then said that idea was retarded. I simply state a fact of science, and you mocked it…just like good little liberals do.
