What a Strange World

November 19, 2009 by admncc

My wife often says that she doesn’t like watching the news because of all the doom and gloom stories.  I always tell her that no matter who the media outlet is, it’s hard to get away from those stories, because people crave them.

However, even I was disturbed this morning by two of the leading news stories.

#1
Police: Girl, 15, dug grave anticipating killing

You can read the full Associated Press story here, but below is a quick snippet.

“Blessed with a Friday off school, 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante dug two holes in the ground to be used as a grave, authorities said.  For the next week, she attended classes, all the while plotting the right time for a murder, they said.

That time arrived the evening of Oct. 21, when Bustamante strangled 9-year-old neighbor Elizabeth Olten without provocation, cut the girl’s throat and stabbed her, prosecutors said.

“Ultimately, she stated she wanted to know what it felt like,” Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Rice testified Wednesday during a court hearing over the slaying.

Rice, who interviewed Bustamante in the days after Elizabeth’s disappearance, said she confessed to investigators and led them to the fourth-grader’s well-concealed body in a wooded area near their neighborhood in St. Martins, a small town west of Jefferson City.”

#2
Dad accused of forcing son into field, killing him

You can read the full Associated Press story here, but below is a quick snippet.

“A 37-year-old father irate over hearing his 15-year-old son had sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl made the teen strip at gunpoint, marched him to a vacant lot and shot him to death despite pleas from the boy and his mother, a relative said.

Michigan authorities filed a first-degree murder charge Wednesday against Jamar Pinkney Sr. in the shooting death Monday of Jamar Pinkney Jr. in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park.”

Wow, talk about mood-ruining stories.  What the hell is this world coming to?  I mean, we’re talking Missouri and Michigan here.  I realize that bad things happen every day, but still…

  1. Either there are more truly sick people in the world these days or we have the means to know about more of them. Maybe it’s both.

  2. Marissa says:

It’s scary to think these people could easily be our neighbors. And all this time I was worried about zombies taking over the world.

  3. NeoConDon says:

    …It’s all George Bush’s fault…

  4. Extreme John says:

Thanks a lot….. I purposely ignored all forms of news today because I was trying to avoid all the crazy crap out there and yo have to post this.

Can’t even say, “These People”. Animals.

  5. Candice says:

Pure insanity. I’ve yet to recover from last year’s Greyhound bus beheading story, geez. And yes, that 15 year old should get tried as an adult, and I hope she gets locked away forever.

  6. Couldn’t agree more. It’s impossible to watch the local news with your children any more.

  7. c.princess says:

I hardly watch the news anymore. Life is too short to watch and hear depressing things.

  8. thinkinfyou says:

These two stories are perfect examples of why I can bring myself to watch the news. What the hell is this world coming to!?!

  9. Zig says:

I think that I can’t watch anything. Alright… All TV is sensationalized trash. In post George W. Bush society, the person who speaks louder is always correct! The news is trash, but if I don’t watch local news…I am an uninformed person. Even Dr. Phil is more shock TV topics, suppose to be Oprah Winfrey in pants. The Mad Money guy is a lunatic… Do I need to continue. These trends started long ago. Politics is another soap opera on C-Span! Our society sucks right now. I prefer to look at computer porn in my free time! At least it LOOKS natural. One gets what they want, without a lot of arguing, when they look at computer porn…alone!

  10. Mike N says:

These are two terrible stories. There’s nothing else to say regarding that.

However, I’m hearing the same thing from everyone. “This is why I can’t watch the news anymore”. That’s total BS. Do you honestly believe the world has gotten so much worse that all the news channels do is report sick and twisted news? I’ve got news for you, they’ve been reporting the same sick and twisted news for a long time.

Some of you will remember specific stories that pop out in your mind over the years. The one that pops out in my mind is the story of Amy Majolevich. (I do apologize for misspelling her last name. I did try and look it up, but couldn’t find the correct spelling.) If you remember anything about her, she was stabbed in the neck and her killer was never found. The story controlled the news for a long long time.

Or how about Jon Benet Ramsey?

I’m just trying to point out that it’s stupid to say that you don’t watch the news ANYMORE, as if it was somehow full of kittens and lolipops before.

  11. What in the world??? Boy, do I miss the old time “kittens and lollipops” news (snort)

  12. Yeah, I saw the one where the dad killed his son while the mom pleaded for his life in the paper. Harsh punishment but i bet there is a lot of fathers out there applauding the dads actions. Actually the dad did him a favor by shooting him, he only had to die that one time. I know a family whose son is in prison for child molestation and he fears for his life every day.

The missouri people are weird, i outta know cause i was one once, not a killer, a missouri ite.

  13. Timmy says:

Too bad Michael Jackson’s dad didn’t drag him out into a field and kill him…All I gotta say is woohoo one less child molester. I’m gonna find out where this guy is going to prison and send him 1000 count thread bed sheets!!

  14. Hal says:

    Real nice attitude, Timmy.

  15. Zig says:

Mike, what are you talking about? I think the majority of posters on this board weren’t really, seriously commenting on the atrocities played out in the news, idiot! The majority of posters were talking about the way they were playe out BY the news, i.e. in which “news” outlets cover stories… At least that is what I was saying. Mine wasn’t a criticism of the news, but the way “News” outlets cover the story!

Timmy, are you serious? All we need in this world is one more killing. What isf I said this, “It is too bad your father didn’t drag you out into the woods and shoot you with his hunting rifle. The world and this complaint board would be a far better place without you…” Does that make you feel good? Why would you say that about another man kiling his son? Haven’t you heard a father’s love knows no bounds? As you might imagine, I am sure Michael Jackson’s father wouldn’t and didn’t love his son any less after reading the “news stories” of his son’s actions! You are an idiot!

  16. Zig says:

The first paragraph is to the idiot, Mike N. The second is to the bigger douche, Timmy! CC told me to clarify!

  17. The Constant Complainer says:

We offer polite debating on here, Zig. So I wanted to make sure of who you were attacking. LOL. Thank you for clarifying.

  18. Timmy says:

Zig, I think the reason I wasnt taken out into a field and shot is because…(now wait for it this may be tough for you to understand)….I DONT and or DIDNT molest a helpless child…Oh and thank you for the entertainment…I love the news!!!

  19. NeoConDon says:

Timmy has a great point here, assuming the molestation allegations are true. This father may have done the rest of the us a great service. We all know that our liberal court system would spend a few years trying to “rehabilitate” this loser, and he’d go out and do it all again. The only good child molester is a dead child molester…regardless of his age.

  20. Zig says:

I really don’t argue with the fact that child molstation is a very bad thing. Before you guys kill this kid, let him have his day in court..Oh that’s right! HE’S DEAD! How does that really seem fair? Have you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? This kid may have been guilty of the acts…we will never know! Do any of you know the circumstances of the case?

Timmy, you are a helpless child! You love what you believe to be the news, but it’s really shock TV! You should have been taken into a field and SHOT!

  21. Timmy says:

Zig, Im sure he was a stand up kid, probably president of the student council, a member of the national honor society and a straight A student that was cut down before he had the chance to become the next president of the united states….Either that or he was a SCUMBAG child molester that would have spent 3-5 years in prison only to get out and god forbid come after your little boy or girl.

I say BRAVO to the father and I would love to buy him a beer!

  22. NeoConDon says:

…according to ABC news, the 3 year-old victim was the molester’s sister, and the father was a postal employee…

  23. Jacki says:

I am not going to speak ill of the dad who shot his son, because I don’t know what I would do if I found out someone was molesting my daughter.

  24. TallElf says:

I can’t imagine the thoughts of either of these murderer’s at the moment they thought that they should take someone’s life. I understand that both are under extremely different circumstances, however don’t both fall under the category of taking someone’s life?

It is not my choice to make of the life to take. My next question is what will be the next thing to set that father off? If he is willing to kill his own flesh and blood, then what is his next step?

  25. Both those stories are so tragically sad.

  26. Sugar says:

Those stories were disturbing. It’s almost like the next news story has to top the previous one.

  27. Zig says:

Timmy, Get this…you are an ASSHOLE. Are you proposing that kids who aren’t “… a stand up kid, probably president of the student council, a member of the national honor society and a straight A student that was cut down before he had the chance to become the next president of the united states…,” should be denied due process and should be taken out into a field and shot like a dog?

Let me ask you why you are proposing to ruin 4 lives from this terrible event? The man’s behavior was totally wrong and despicable! But, was the father’s response right? I would say no! Look, now, the girl’s, the father’s and the son’s life are all ruined. Oh, and lets throw the mom in the “ruined” category too! I am sure she is suffering as well. All this pain…kinda makes me want to say forgive.

For you to pull out the sympathy card in order to win this argument makes you a SCUMBAG, i.e. “Either that or he was a SCUMBAG child molester that would have spent 3-5 years in prison only to get out and god forbid come after your little boy or girl.” No, you are an ASSHOLE! For you to bring my innocent son into this argument shows that you have no good sense. You cannot support your opinions or win an argument based on only the facts. This, posting on CC, is an escape for me, but you are trying to make it personal. And you pull out the kid/empaty card and still aren’t winning this argument! Move on…

We truly live in a sick and perverted society….
