The Green Light
October 16, 2009 by admncc
Whenever I’m referring to a bad movie, I always say, “I can’t believe a studio gave the green light to make that.”
But in the same breath, don’t get me wrong – I love movies. And when relating them to this blog, I love complaining about bad ones. How many of you can relate? After watching a movie, have you ever said, “That was terrible” or “Can I have the last two hours of my life back?”
So with that being said, I’m going to try a new segment on here related to the movies. I figured it might be entertaining, because in addition to the actual movies, we can discuss the celebrities, plots, sequels or anything having to do with the movies. I’m going to call this segment “The CC Says.”
Although the whole premise of my blog is complaining, I do want to say that I am actually fair when rating movies. So if it looks good, I’ll say so, and vice versa. Frankly, I’ve often been accused of getting too excited about movies. So we’ll see how this segment goes and of course, I’m sure there will be some complaining along the way.
Let me know if you like this segment or not and/or if you’d like to see it continue… I’ll start out with movie trailers, but I’m sure we’ll progress to reviews over time.
My wife and I went to the movies last weekend. Below are the three previews that were shown before our particular movie:
“The Blind Side” starring Sandra Bullock
IMDB says, “A poor, oversized and under-educated teenager is recruited by a major college football program where he is groomed into an athletically and academically successful NFL prospect. Based on Michael Lewis’ book, “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.””
The CC says, “I like Sandra Bullock. This is a great role for her. The idea of a tear jerking family-oriented story is always appealing to me. Plus, this one comes with a football storyline as well.”
“Did You Hear About the Morgan’s?” starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker
IMDB says, “In New York City, an estranged couple who witness a murder are relocated to small-town Wyoming as part of a witness-protection program.”
The CC says, “I have a hard time watching Sarah Jessica Parker in anything else other than Sex and the City. Hugh Grant always plays an interesting character though. And the plot seems interesting – they’re having marital troubles, they have to go into the witness protection program and then they start to wonder if there’s still a spark with their relationship. I’m not sure, but I might be waiting for Netflix to deliver this one.”
“Paranormal Activity” starring Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat
IMDB says, “After moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence.”
The CC says, “I’ve heard this is supposedly the scariest movie since “The Blair Witch Project.” I also heard that people were having trouble sleeping after seeing this movie. That makes me curious to see it. It opened as a limited-release last week, but then the studio apparently received more than 1,000,000 requests to open it nationwide, so they’re doing so. A must see!”
P.S. All trailers were obtained through YouTube.com. “The Blind Side” was distributed by Warner Bros, “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” was distributed by Columbia Pictures and “Paranormal Activity” was distributed by Paramount.
P.S.S. Happy Bosses Day 2009

I think the trailer for Paranormal Activitity was the best trailer I’ve ever seen. I love the shots of the audience watching it. I’m definitely going to see it, and I ususally only catch one or two films a year at the theater. This one will be number two, and I still need to go see New Moon when it comes out in November.
I liked the trailer for The Blind Side. I won’t be seeing Paranormal Activity any time soon. No way.
You know, I have this tendency to agree with the critics most of the time, I have seen some real sleepers that I was enthralled with because the critics liked them. But most of the really BIG moneymakers the critics hate, lots of action, T&A and so on, so go figure. I love the movies and when I see a really good one I leave the theater with a sense of fulfillment, but I do my homework and rarely do I go to one that’s a dog. The last time I was burned at the movies was with the Davinci Code, great book but just the worst movie I have ever seen. Tom Hanks won’t even acknowledge he was in it.
I used to go to the movies every Friday when I was in high school. I would have to say that it didn’t matter what it was, I was going, and we only had a 1 screen theater in town. (They now have 2) The only time I really got burnt was on The Bridges of Madison County. I was informed that Clint Eastwood was in it, and needless to say, the only major drama revolved around the lunch box. (That was my teenage mindset at that point). As far as these trailers, I would like to check out Paranormal Activity, but the Missus isn’t much for the horror films, so I may have to wait for the NETFLIX to drop it off which could be a while.
Good post idea. And there’s no way in hell I’m seeing Paranormal Activity.
I saw the trailer for the Blind Side a few months ago at the movies and it made me cry. I really want to see this one. I’m not interested the the Sarah Jessica one at all, and Paranormal Activitiy might put me over the edge!
I can’t remember the last time we saw a movie in the theater. It’s been a LONG time. We usually wait until it comes on DVD, and even then I think $5 is too much to pay for some movies.
No Paranormal Activity for me, either.
I heard “Paranormal” is excellent.
Jacki, try going to a 3D movie these days. I took my daughter to see one and aside from the regular movie pricing, there was a $3 up-charge for each of us, just for our 3D glasses. Ug!
OK all, I did see “Paranormal Activity” this weekend and thought it was excellent! Very intense and two hours flew by. I was able to sleep OK, contrary to rumors of its scariness. But many people in the theater were walking out saying that they were a little freaked out.
They showed a trailer for Leo DiCaprio’s “Shutter Island” before “Paranormal Activity” started. Wow, that looks spooky-good too!
I remember all the hype surrounding The Blair Witch Project. The shaky camera was so annoying but I realize it was an important feature of the film. Paranormal Activity: Hope it’s worth the hype. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
No F’ing way will I ever see “Did You Hear About the Morgan’s?” because that horse faced no tallent POS Jessica Parker is in it. And no, she is NOT actractive.
“The Blind Side” looks pretty good but I’m more likely to rent that on a sunday with the the GF after dinner. But Sandra Bullock sure does look HOT!
“Paranormal Activity” looks fun. Good to see in the theater and then go for a drink and chat about with some friends.
My 1 cent, keeping the other for gas.
The Blind Side sounds like a good movie. I’d be very impressed to see Sandra Bullock pull off the role of a lifetime as “A poor, oversized and under-educated teenager” being groomed for the NFL…
lmao Mike
