Moron of the Week Award #10

August 13, 2009 by admncc

As you know, the last few weeks I just outright awarded the “Moron of the Week Award” to a few people.  So this week, I thought it would be fun to get back to an interactive voting environment.

If you have any additional suggestions, please share them below.  If not, here are my nominations.

First is Melissa Catherine Smith-Means from Gaylesville, Alabama.  She’s the mom who dragged her child (on a leash) through a Verizon store.  You can view the 17-second video here.  As a parent, watching it was gut wrenching and angering.  Melissa has since been arrested and was charged with first-degree child cruelty.  Nothing in my mind can justify her actions.  Thanks to Dani for bringing this story to my attention.

Second is Rick Pitino, the former Head Coach of the Boston Celtics.  Pitino has been in the news lately because authorities were investigating a woman’s plot to extort him (to the tune of college tuition for her two children, two cars, money to pay off her house and $3,000 per month).  Why was she trying to extort him you ask?  Apparently, six years ago, Pitino slept with her in a restaurant where he had been drinking.  You can read the WBZ story here.  And it’s worth noting that two weeks after the fling initially happened, Karen Sypher told Pitino she was pregnant and he gave her money for an abortion.  Oh, and they are both married.  I guess that’s my problem with him.  He’s married, has five kids and is a high-profile coach.  But yet, he goes to a restaurant, starts drinking and bangs a woman on the premises.  Come on, Rick, you should know better!  I don’t condone Sypher trying to extort him either…

What do you think?

  1. i think there should be an exception made if you have two equally retarded candidates. Like in this case, for instance.

I would generally vote for the sleezebag. unfortunately, i’ve come to expect this sort of behavior from “sports” people. why they gotta be so shady? Ok, everyone.. chillax, i’m not implying everyone who plays sports can’t keep it in their pants. gees.

but the leash? well, was it one of those made for children leashes? or like, a regular dog collar? that might influence my decision.

  2. HOLD THE PRESSES!!!! i just watched the video… um…

    the mom wins.

    ridiculous.

  3. Jane says:

Whoa. Bad mother all the way. That was nuts.

  4. Bad mom.

Unfortunately, the coach’s behavior although pathetic and moronic, is not surprising. That mom dragging her kid was beyond stupid.

  5. You know my feelings about “Pet Children” and I posted my reactions today too after you sent me this video. I had to address it, and let’s just say I’m a little long winded.

So, my vote goes for the mom. She should be ashamed of herself.

  6. Sugar says:

Both are morons and both should know better. To me, it’s a tie.

Who the hell knows that their pregnant 2 weeks after they have sex? Pitino is a dumbass for paying her the money to begin with. He should have refused and then demanded a paternity test when the baby was born.

As far as the Mom who drug her child through the store, she’s an even bigger dumbass. Who’s not going to tape that and post it on youtube? Carry the child if he isn’t going to walk, or better yet, bring a stroller.

  7. The Constant Complainer says:

Jennifer, thanks for the shout out on your blog. I appreciate that.

You can view Jennifer’s “Feedback Friday – Pet Children” post regarding this story at http://hopestudios.blogspot.com/2009/08/feedback-friday-pet-children.html.

  8. C. Princess says:

I cringe whenever I see leases on children. I find them so barbaric and cruel.

I would say it’s pretty much a tie between Melissa and Rick.

  9. Mike says:

Wow that was horrible to watch. How can someone do that in the fist place and doing it publicly makes is worse. Anyways, I like you new layout, something tells me my site gave you some ideas…maybe im wrong haha

  10. It’s so funny to come back here and read all the responses, because it’s getting a little nastier over my way. We all just got chided for making judgements and the Bible was quoted. I feel more at home here 🙂

Oh, and one last thought on the mom at Verizon: if this is how she behaves in PUBLIC what on earth happens behind closed doors? Huh?

  11. Jen says:

They both sound horrible. I’m not quite sure who to pick on this one. But, psychologically abusing a child is far worse than just being a scumbag who cheats on his wife. I guess I’ll have to go with the leash toting mom.

  12. Sugar says:

My nephew, who is 2, has a back pack that has a strap on the back of it. It straps to your hand, but does not restrict the child. In busy areas like the mall, it is convenient when he doesn’t want to sit or be held. I have no problem with that particular “product”, because it is not binding the child. It’s not meant to do that.

But I would never, ever, ever do to my nephew what that moron did to her child.

  13. Extreme John says:

    Whats up whats up!

Ok hands down the stupid tramp dragging her kid through Verizon on that leash is complete bs, she needs to be dragged over some nails on a leash like that. Makes me sick as hell.

As for the two home wreckers, it is what it is, and not all that surprising.

The Monster Mommy wins hands down.

On a side note don’t forget Gina Carano fights Cyrborg tonight, are you watching?

  14. Pitino should’ve also promised to pay for the next abortion too, should a second sexual encounter occur.

  15. Admittedly it can be tough in crowded public settings to keep an eye on multiple children, but you have to develop methods that do not simply involve tying a kid up on a leash. EPIC FAIL.

  16. NeoConDon says:

With 4 kids, I understand the mentality of putting a child on a lease. That doesn’t mean I’d ever do it, but I understand it.

  17. TallElf says:

What about the manager at BK who said that the woman had to put shoes on her 6 mo old to be in the restaurant.

  18. Wow, I’m glad that mother was charged. I can’t imagine anyone doing that to their animal let alone their child. That is awful!

  20. Zig says:

What that mother did was just comical. It was bad, but was it really criminal? I want to know what Rick’s “Lady friend” looks like, before I comment on his alleged affair…

As far as cheating spouses go, it’s gonna happen. Women need to learn to please their men. If he was happier at home, maybe he wouldn’t have been so interested in, allegedly, porking some waitress! As for women dragging their children through verizon stores, hey, maybe she was having a bad day!

NCD, you wouldn’t need to put your kid on a leash. Don’t say that you understand, because you don’t! Your answer would be to just leave him/them at home, while you take another “one” of your ratpack of children to Cedar Point!
