A Visit to Crichton

April 13, 2009 by admncc

Apparently this story and video came out three years ago, but for some reason, I never saw it until this past weekend.  Whether you’ve seen it before or this is the first time you’re hearing about it, I’m curious what you think.

The sad part is that this is a true news story.  An NBC affiliate actually covered it, and as you’ll see, they dedicated two minutes and three seconds of their newscast to it.

It is called a “Leprechaun in Mobile, Alabama.”  The residents of Crichton believed that a real leprechaun was residing in their neighborhood.  You can view the brief video here.

I’d like to go on record as saying that I am not making fun of the residents of Crichton who appeared in the video.  The issue I have is with the local news station that produced the story.  The fact that they covered this story, spent time producing it, interviewed people and pretty much caused the town’s residents to embarrass themselves on camera is the problem I have.

In the past, I’ve mentioned that I sometimes question the content that some television news outlets broadcast, but I think this story takes the cake.

The two news anchors who reported this and whoever produced it are morons and should be fired, if they weren’t already.  Did they truly believe this was a story of the public’s interest?  I honestly thought it was a joke video with actors the first time I saw it.  I sat there and wondered, “Who would spend time reporting this and developing it into a story for the 11 o’clock news?”

Yes, it may be funny in theory, and this may be the epitome of ridiculous news stories, but I now realize why I don’t watch the news on TV.  Because if it isn’t the doom and gloom, it’s this kind of story, where I sit there and want to ask if I can have the last few minutes of my life back…

I’m pretty much the same. I don’t like watching or reading about the news that much either.

This is a perfect example of how out of touch today’s media has become. This is the type of reporting that helped drive the newspaper industry into the cesspool that it is. But what do you expect from NBC…??? Lies, smoke, and mirrors.

  3. Kelly says:

    Wait… A leprechaun? I’m so there!

  4. Jen says:

Our local radio station has a whole remixed rap using the audio from this clip they began running a few years ago. I have heard it many times, but only recently viewed it. You gotta love it.

I’ve seen this video a few times and think it is hysterical. At the same time, I also consider it to be “doom and gloom” on an evolutionary level…

As for the media in general, they essentially are of no benefit to society. It makes little difference if it is national or local news. The owners of the media outlets don’t really want to report news, they want the best ratings.

Useful information is an occasional byproduct, but for the most part they want interesting (entertaining) stories and a friendly face to give them to you. As Don Henley says, “she can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye.” The rest of the song is pretty accurate as well.

The sad fact is that people can’t handle the truth. We want to go about our lives and pay our taxes and collect as much useless crap as we can. The media lets us live in our bubbles while constantly warning us that we need protection from ourselves and each other (ruling class agenda). No matter that the floor is crumbling beneath our feet. Just go to work and then go shopping, as W would put it.

Thankfully, the Internet gives us a gateway to the truth. There is so much garbage piled on top of it that it is almost impossible to find, but at least it’s there.

You’re not alone. I have never seen this before. I must be out of the loop. I read the paper, but never watch the news on television. I enjoyed the “amateur sketch” in the video.

  7. Sugar says:

The video is hilarious! It looks like a sketch off of SNL or the Chapelle Show.

  8. Bll says:

Although a stupid story, at least it’s not shooting and killing. I do however don’t watch the local news stations because they report nothing but smoke and mirrors. They report what they are told and not the real or important stories.

  9. Bll says:

I forgot to ask if anyone knows where I can get one of those leprechaun flutes…….

  10. Kim says:

Wow, I’ve seen some pretty exploitative pieces in my time, but this one just might take the cake. Wonder if the station would’ve been so keen to do the story if it hadn’t been in that neighborhood? Totally agree with you—the people who allowed this to air should at the very least be ashamed of themselves.

  11. um, its alabama. does it really surprise you??

  12. Sugar says:

If there are people that are who are that naive and gullible, then they should be ashamed of themselves. All the News Station did was expose how dim-witted our society is becoming.

Majic flutes? Pots of gold? It sounds like they all got a hold of the “wrong stuff”, lol.

  13. Dan says:

“It might be a crack head.”

    Great quote. LOL.

I needed a good laugh this morning and this video delivers. I hate the news, especially local news seems to aggravate me more than most. Some of the things that people think and that the news chooses to report on is unreal.

It is also amazing to me how the dumbest people on the planet end up being recorded.
